“I'm about five inches from being an outstanding golfer. That's the distance my left ear is from my right.“ -Ben Crenshaw

“Golf is a game that is played on a five-inch course--the distance between your ears.“ -Bobby Jones

One of the most common answers after a round of golf that I hear is, “ The course was great, had fun, but I played terrible.”  Why is it that amateur players expect to hit every shot perfect?  Golf is a game of miss hits.  During a regular round of golf, there are only 18 perfectly hit shots, when the ball goes in the hole, which is usually a putt.  With that said, the best recorded score on the PGA Tour, the best players in the world, is a 59.  That means that the PGA Tour player who played the best round of their life, miss hit the ball 41 times.  When the everyday player is out on the course, they should never let a bad shot ruin their round, or their next shot. If you hit a bad shot, forget about it, and focus on your next shot.   Miss hits and poor shots are part of the game, the key is to make your bad shots still playable.  This means that sometimes you should hit a 7 iron instead of a 6 iron to make sure you clear the water or a hazard. Being over the green in the rough, or even in a bunker is better than being in the water.  And Remember, Bubba Watson won The Masters from the trees!
